Mission Statement
In late March of 2004, Sean became ill while finishing up a successful season up in Canada at the Canadian National Championships. Upon his return back to Steamboat Colorado he became severely ill and was admitted into the hospital for nearly two weeks. While in the hospital his condition would stabilize and then go back downhill. Sean did not know what was in store for him. After being well stabilized, Sean was sent out to California for more medical treatment. The diagnosis...Juvenile Diabetes (type 1/insulin dependent). This was just one of the health problems Sean would encounter and have to learn to deal with.

Sean spent eight months away from his home in Steamboat back in California while his teammates and competitors trained hard for the coming season. Things were not looking bright for this once healthy young man. With his loving family, wonderful doctors, sponsors, and caring teammates and coaches, Sean was able to pick himself back up even with the odds stacked against him and continue to follow his goals.

CURE
With a loss of over 30 pounds within two weeks and many misdiagnoses, Sean was determined to get back into the swing of things. He would spend most of the eight months going from doctor to doctor being tested and told he probably had such things as lupus, Polymyositis, M.E.N. Syndrome, to cystic fibrosis. He was producing many kinds of antibodies, specific to many serious diseases. He would practically live in labs having his blood drawn for antibodies and other abnormalities to give the doctors guidance in figuring out all the bizarre things that were going on. Every lab result pointed his care team in different directions.

Sean's body had gone haywire and according to his doctors Sean quickly became known as a "medical puzzle." Even with these uncertainties and already dealing with a serious disease, Sean was still determined to continue what he loved and follow his passions to achieve his goals. Nothing was going to stand in his way. Although Sean's health was very complicated he showed determination to get back on the snow and show his doctors, family, and especially other diabetics that his health was not going to slow him down. A whole new life was ahead for Sean and he was going to go on stronger, mentally tougher, and more willing then before.

Sean wants this site to address his diabetes in hopes that it can bring strength and hope to others that battle the daily demands of diabetes (type 1, type 2, gestational) and to all those that battle any form of a chronic illness. Sean has found hope from the many others that deal with chronic conditions daily. He understands the toll it takes on ones life from depression to feeling like an outcast. He is given hope daily by other children, teens, and adults that battle the daily demands of their chronic conditions. He wants this site to be dedicated to all the others that suffer from some sort of a chronic condition or for those that have love ones that deal with its daily demands.

"We are all family and our support can give each of us strength to continue to fight our battles daily."
